Most people reach a service like this from a phone, and several of the problems that come with it never appear on a desktop at all. This guide is about the small screen specifically.

Browser or installed app?

A page open in a browser runs inside limits the browser sets. It cannot reach into your files at will, cannot read your messages, and can be closed with nothing left behind.

An installed app operates under nothing like the same constraints. That does not make every app unsafe; it means the bar for deciding to install one should be higher than the bar for opening a page. The download guide covers where to set it.

Problems that only happen on a phone

A truncated address bar

Mobile browsers routinely shorten a hostname to save room. Tap the address bar once to see the whole thing before you decide anything. It is the step people skip most often and the one that matters most.

Hitting the wrong control

Controls packed close together on a narrow screen are easy to mis-tap, especially a confirm button sitting next to a cancel. Read the label before you press rather than relying on where the button was last time.

The keyboard covering the page

When the keyboard opens, half the viewport goes with it, and the conditions printed under a form field are exactly what disappears. Scroll through them before confirming.

Switching networks mid-transaction

Moving between Wi-Fi and mobile data during a transaction can resend a request or cut one off. If something matters, stay on one network until it finishes.

Save a route you have verified

Once an address checks out, bookmark it immediately. On a phone you can also add it to the home screen from the browser's own menu, which gets you most of an app's convenience without installing anything.

The real benefit is not speed. It is that you stop depending on search results, which is where an imitation page has its best chance of finding you.

When it will not load on a phone

Before concluding the problem is at the far end, try three things: the same page in a different browser, the same page with extensions or data-saver mode off, and the same page on a different network. If all three behave the same way, it is probably not your device.

The full sign-in sequence is on the signing-in page.
