The age requirement, how to set your own boundaries before you start, the signals that mean stop, and where to look for help.

The age requirement

Services of this kind are for people aged 18 and over. The content on this site is written for adults and is not intended to be reached by anyone younger.

Set the boundary before you start, not during

Deciding how much and how long is far easier before you begin, because once a session is under way the feeling of the moment gets a vote. Set a number and a time in advance, and write them down somewhere.

A boundary you move mid-session is not a boundary. If you find yourself negotiating with a figure you set yourself, that is the signal to stop — not the signal to adjust the figure.

Signals that mean stop

  • Playing to recover what has already gone rather than for entertainment
  • Using money that is already committed to something else
  • Concealing the time or the amounts from people close to you
  • Feeling irritable or restless when not playing
  • Sessions getting longer without any decision to make them longer

Any one of those is enough to stop and take stock. There is no need to wait for the full set.

Tools that genuinely help

Many operators provide limit settings or a temporary account suspension. If yours does, set them while you are still deciding neutrally. Beyond that, a simple timer alarm on a phone is more effective in practice than it sounds.

When it stops feeling like a choice

The first thing to do is stop and talk to somebody you trust. In Thailand the Department of Mental Health operates a free helpline on 1323. Asking early is considerably easier than waiting for things to get worse.
